Go up into the loft and have a look at the upper side of the ceilings.
If it has partition walls, look for cracks and knock them with your knuckles. After a while you will get to make a fair guess from the sound. A prewar house in a city or large town is likely to have been shaken by bombing in the unpleasantness between 1939 and 1945 and L&P walls will probably have been cracked and repaired. The ceilings in particular tend to come loose and fall down.
Skimmed plasterbord is usually very flat but often has the distinctive cracks where the boards meet.
