Whats the best way to repair a lath & plaster ceiling, area damaged is approx 1.5m2 on a ceiling area approx 25m2 so pulling whole ceiling down is not an option.

Once i remove the damaged area what are the best options,
1. remove laths and reboard then use bonding to bring level then skim full ceiling?
2. leave laths in place and use EML then use bonding?
3. can you use an undercoat plaster directly over the laths, correct prep of course?
4. other options?

advice appreciated

would leave the lath and do it in lime.
You can remove the lath and board it but I wouldn't use bonding etc. If boarding I would pack it to bring the board within a couple of mm of the ceiling and skim with thistle adding a little lime to allow for movement.
