Laying Quarry Tiles over Paving Slabs in my Garden

I have some ancient paving slabs in my patio area which I would like to replace with quarry tiles. Rather than lift all the old slabs, can I simply tile over them? Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

this is an old posting with no answers - but something I am also interested in. Presume it's ok so long as the base is firm? Any comments? Many thanks

I cannot see there being a problem if the base is solid....
