I want to replace the lead water main pipe that runs to my house. I have signed up to and been accepted by United Utilities for them to connect the new pipe at the mains. However, the plumber that I have asked to do the job is refusing to bring the new water main pipe into my garage where the hot water tank is. My garage is integral to the house, has cavity walls with insulation, a fully insulated floor and an insulated roller garage door, it is very snug and warm in there!! His reasoning is that the regulations prevent the water main point of entry being near the hot water tank and all the associated central heating controls. I have searched high and low, read all of The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and I can find nothing about where the water main point of entry can or can not be.
Having recently finished fitting a new kitchen and laying new floor tiles, apart from where the existing water main pipe is, I do not want to rip up the kitchen floor to lay the new pipe as he is suggesting.
Anybody got any advice or personal experience?
