Hi All, some help please:

As the title says, moving central heating pipework out of screed and into loft, with drop downs for rads.

System is open vented, with cylinder, pump & mid-position valve all in airing cupboard. Boiler is a Potterton Netaheat - wall mounted in Kitchen.

All pipework has been re-routed as follows:

Flow from boiler, now comes out the boiler, drops down about 2ft, then two elbows and back up into the loft in 22mm copper with Automatic Air Vents at the highest point. It goes over to the airing cupboard and drops down in 22 (still) to connect to the feed into the pump. From here it is utilising old pipework to go up to the mid position valve. Out of the mid position valve goes through the coil, then back up into the loft and connects to the flow back to the boiler. The other port of the mid position valve exits as the flow to the rads in the house and feeds off to all these in turn. The secondary return pipework in 22 in the loft receives all the returns from the rads and goes back to the boiler and drops down into the kitchen, into the boiler. There is an Automatic Air Vent on the return pipework too just above where it drops back to the boiler.

Issue is that when i re-fill the system, water doesn't appear to be getting to the pump (even though all pipework has been installed below the level of the F&E) and when i just flicked the boiler on very quickly , it appeared the return pipe was the one heating up and not the flow - and no, I haven't got these the wrong way round as checked very carefully with the manual. For those who know the boiler, the flow appears to be the highest of the pipework connections on the left of the boiler. Flow at the top, return about 3 inches below.

Apologies for the dis-jointedness of the description, if any one needs any clarification please say.

Any ideas on a) how to clear any airlocks to get water into the pump, and b) any ideas as to why it is the return pipework heating up and not the flow?

Many thanks

big air lock in the flow  . Can you get a mains water connection to it nearby- and blow air out . Are all valves and motorised ones fully open
