Let us know how it goes.

The average rate for a plumber in Bristol area is £35.00 an hour if it helps.

If an unvented cylinder is discharging water, NEVER, repeat NEVER turn the water off

Personally I would leave it off until it's checked out.............

These statements appear to conflict. Can you explain?

In the wrong hands this could make quite a nasty bomb

Please stop this, it's been done to death, and you have never come across a case of this, or seen any UK report of an incident. There are seven safety devices to prevent it, and all will have to be defeated for it to occur.

Poster said the TPRV was blowing indicating a fault with the heat source, under no circumstances should you turn the mains water off, you should instead isolate the heat source, and wait for the pressure to settle down, as the cylinder cools.

In this case the poster has already turned it off, I was advising to leave it off until it's checked out.

Later it's is obvious the PRV is blowing and there's possibly a fault with the expansion vessel, so it will need to be turned back on the check.

No I refuse!

I'm not going to turn into bigwaterblubberersystems over this but I do have a G3 ticket for a reason and I will mention the danger whenever I see fit.

Maybe you don't believe there are idiots out there who stop pressure relief pipes leaking by putting a stop end on them but I have seen it with my own eyes on more than one occasion. I have also seen stats of various types bypassed on more than one occasion. One day the two respective types of idiot will come together with a piece of wire and a stop end for a big steamy roast.

then there's Labour charges, and on that front, DO NOT get a call out Plumber who will charge you a fee to turn up, and do not get a heating engineer who will be twice the cost.

I cannot immagine many people who are qualified to work on unventeds ( G3 ) who are not CORGI as well and therefore could be classed as heating engineers.

I would treat a fault on an unvented just like a boiler and charge an £84 diagnostic fee. But in this case I would hope to be able to recharge the EXV within that price.

If I had to return to supply and fit a new EXV then I would probably be charging about £65 extra although thats uneconomic in London but it only happens rarely.
