leaked kodak AA battery

Kodak AA batteries have leaked in r/c car can the residue be cleaned up safely to make car safe for child use again ? exp date on batteries 9/2005 .
1out of 6 batteries have leaked .Was this just luck or do all makes of batteries leak when left in unused toys ?

Out of date and expired batteries often leak and cheap ones more than most.
Cleaning can be a problem. The acid can be disolved in water so as long as the water does not damage anything else you could wash the battery compartment.
Leave it in the airing cupboard for a few days after washing to ensure all moisture has evaporated.

for all the advertising speel about never leaking i had some duracells leak without ever being inserted into equipment and they were still well in date!
