Hi Guys and gals,

I've got a problem with my new Honeywell automatic air vent valve (EA 122).

A plumber some time ago when installing a power shower said my old one was shot (had a type of car tyre valve on the top) and replaced it with another type. This one leaked so after a chat with my local merchant I bought the Honeywell. The problem now is I get water leaking from the top cap (irrespective of how tight I lock it) and if I turn the valve to the off position, it leaks through the threads (despite enough tape and doing up tight). After a time the system loses pressure and I have to recharge it. Any clues?

Sounds like theres air somewhere trying to get out, but how can I fix it?

System is a Honeywell Sundial Y plan and heating/water all works fine.

They do that. For reliability fit a manual air vent instead.

The aav has a float, when there is air in the system the float drops, on the float at the top is a pin which fits a hole once in it's life, when new. The venting of air means dirty system water fills up the float chamber the needle and some dirty system water fills the hole. If that fit is not so good because of deposits you have your leak. You can take them apart clean them and try them again. This fails so frequently I don't bother with the labour any more.

Just fit a manual one.
