Leaking bathtub into ceiling below? How to fix?

Hi

I've had a problem with a bathtub leaking into the ceiling below.

I took off the front panel and tested - water stays in the tub when the plug is in.

When the plug is removed, the water leaks out of the bottom of a black pipe (might be called the overflow pipe) near where it is connected to the waste.

It leaks when there is only a very small amount of water coming through (so it might be at the bottom of the overflow or where the overflow joins the waste (not sure)

It's quite hard to do/see much as the space under the bath is small.

Is it possible to :

a) fix this without removing the whole bathtub (which is sealed in)

b) fix this by one's self. If so how?

c) or if one called a plumber, would they have to take out the whole bath?

The waste fitting can be replaced without removing bath.

Is there a screw head in the plug hole ?

Not necessarily it might be a combined pop up waste and overflow. Do you have a pop-up waste? If you are unsure that is the type where you rotate the round thingy where the overflow hole is to 'pop up' the plug? Excuse the technical jargon.

Just checked - the plug hole does have a screwhead.

Just wondering if it's actually possible to get to the over flow. I've taken a couple of pictures. The bath is sealed against a wall and the mixer tap is in the middle (against the wall) so there isn't much space to reach up behind the overflow.

Is this the kind of thing a plumber should do or is it possibly a DIY job?[/img]

Now that will be a little difficult. It is possible to dismantle it and use LS-X sealer to remake joint, but if you find the black overflow pipe split, you need to renew it.

I had done once before, blind fitted it while mate screw overflow cover in.
