Is there either a fibre or rubber washer in the female end of the flexi?

(sealant not required)

Is the washer rubber (usually captive) or fibre?

If you are re-using the flexi then the washer may be distorted and not sealing against the new float valve tail.

its the existing one it is rubber and is clean should i keep tightening or undo and try some fairy liquid on washer

If this is the original flexi then replace it - as a matter of course, we replace all flexi's - without exception.
Clean any "sealant" or tape off the fitting threads, & dont use any yourself.
Dont use "fairy liquid" either - go to dry clean threads.
Make sure that the flexi is not overextended and straining or far too long and full of curls.
You should be able to easily make hand tight connections at both ends before a final nip up with a tool.

Make certain that its not the fitting weeping at the backnut?
