Hi there,

We've had our new bathroom about two and a half years and all of a sudden this evening the toilet cistern started leaking. Not hugely, but a puddle of water formed around the pipe that seems to refill it.

I've attached a photo - I tried tightening a nut on the pipe (red arrow on picture below) but it just span round and round and didn't seem to do anything.

Any suggestions as to how to fix?

Thanks

You need to check exactly where the water is leaking out, and then we can advise more exactly how to fix it. Maybe check and send another pic with an arrow

Ok, so above the isolation valve I can see the thread plastic pipe from the inlet fill that has some ptfe tape showing. Once the nut that tightens onto this plastic pipe thread starts to fail, it’s time to have it removed and a Brass inlet threaded unit fitted. Simple job and once done…it’s done!
If the leak is from the isolation valve, and unfortunately these can leak , I would either renew with a leaver valve ( best )or replace with same….your call.
