Hello. Seen a few other simiar threads but not one specific to this.

After flushing, sometimes (not always) we get water leaking back into the bowl, preventing the tank from refilling. If I push down on the flush mechansim, it fixes itself - sorry, I don't know the terminology.

However, I have recorded this handy video to show exactly what happens and how I rectify it! Hpoefully someone can advise on a longer term fix.

Many thanks in advance!

Sometimes get the same on our downstairs visitor loo. I don't bother taking the cistern lid off because getting the twin buttons to line up again is a PITA! I just gently press and wiggle the buttons. Thats seems to solve it.
I think because we live in a hard water area we sometimes may get a bit of grit/scale which gets trapped, but the slight wiggle dislodges it.
Maybe eventually I will have to change the innards, but until then, it doesn't happen very often.

Could be debris on the washer or the washer has failed. A repair kit is available.

You need to fit a new flush valve , yours does eventually close ,it's just jamming.

Hello CBW. What washer would I be looking at?
The large flush valve washer at the bottom of the cylinder where you pressed...
Exact one will depend on brand of the flush valve you have in the cistern.
They usually can be accessed by removing the cylinder part from its' bayonet fitting.

Turn off the fill valve. Flush to remove most water and twist to remove the existing valve.

Cleaning the rubber sealing washer and the mating area left in cistern may fix it for a time (a smear of silicone grease does no harm on washer and the bayonet for lubrication).
New washers are a few pounds cf 10s of pounds for a replacement flush valve complete.

Although not the same valve this thread may help you: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/...w-washer-or-flush-unit-recommendation.543518/
