:?: I have just moved into this house and I have a Ideal combi boiler with I think 5 yrs. I have no manual or anything.
What happens is after it is stopped for a couple of hours when we started off (either hot water or heating) it smells gas for about 5 min and then stops.
I have called Transco and they said everything was ok but I should have it serviced.
I have called a gas engineer and had it serviced but he noticed the smell but saud he couldn't find anything I would have to start paying per hour and it would probably be quite expensive. I would probably have to pay for parts maybe a new circuit board.
I am thinking maybe just get a new one! :(
Has it happen to anyone?
Can anyone help? :?

as you do not know its history, if you can i would suggest get a new one. Get lots of quotes, also ask british gas, you may get the 5 star cover "thrown in"

(It covers you for almost everything that can and does go wrong) I have it.

Sounds as if this guy wasn't actually an "engineer". (It normally requires at least 3 years at university to get an engineering degree). More likely he was a cowboy. Did you see his Corgi registration certificate?

I recommend you get a qualified person to look at the boiler. In fact I suggest you first contact the manufacturer about the problem. Many manufacturers will give free advice about their products - especially if you point out your worry about a safety hazard and the fact that you are asking about it on the Internet!

A gas service engineer gains his qualification through apprentiship and technical college, not university.
I would recommend you cut your losses and invest in a new boiler as breezer has said, you dont know the history of this boiler and you could end up trying lots of different service engineers, and spending lots of money.
