It's leaking slightly from behind the gland nut, if I shut it off the leak stops. Can I tighten the nut while holding the handle or are they joined together? Or do I have to replace the whole thing?

Open up the stock cock fully.
Updo the nut
Wrap around 6 turms of ptfe tape around the spindle
Push the tape down the side of spindle using a small screwdriver
Apply a small amount of silicon lubricant down the shaft
Tighten up the nut
