Hi
I visited a family members house today. One rad was piping hot. I asked why and was told that the heating engineer that called a few weeks ago (routine maintenance call) whom they had asked about the hot rad, said "you need one rad on all the time for the cirulation of the system otherwise it is dangerous"!!. This is June!. Is this Boll..ks ?. I think the engineer could not be bothered entering into a discussion or the prospect of further work.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Without knowing the system set up or the boiler it is impossible to say that it is bo**ocks.

Could be an old gravity HW system with one rad, usually the bathroom, piped into the gravity circuit, so this rad will come on every time the HW is on.

This was to act as a heat sink in the days of solid fuel heating, as a solid fuel boiler could not be switched off instantly as with gas or oil.

Does sound as though he could not be bothered to explain though

Thanks for you reply Dave. Well the property is a Bungalow and is about 10 yrs old. I think the chap was just trying to get away to his next job, or home.

Andy

A 10 year old bungalow should not have a system fitted that needs a rad left on; what heating system is in the bungalow?
