Lenght Of Vent Pipe to Prevent air intake on pump start up ?

OK getting a bit out of my depth!!

Will book plumber tomorrow to take a look for me.

Are there any quick checks I can do to eliminate the abvious?

Somebody mentioned putting the end of the vent stack (Manual bleed valve) into a beaker and then turning pump on to see if it sucks any water in? Only problem is my vet pipe goes straight up so am not sure how to do this?

I suppose this would highlight a problem but what would the solution be? If it is making vent pipe longer I could do this or I could even add an automatic bleed valve?
