Hello,

Before I start tiling, I'm trying to work out how to raise the level of a concrete floor and, preferably, damp proof it at the same time.

I'm tiling a kitchen and lean-to. The kitchen has a wooden floor, so I was going to cover it with 12mm ply before tiling. The lean-to is a concrete floor of about 3x2m. I'm guessing that there's no damp proof layer under the concrete floor, because the lean-to has been a bit damp over the years. The previous floor was made up of lino and hardboard tiles, which were stuck down with using bitumen-like black stuff, which I think was used as damp proof layer. The bitumen stuff was starting to flake off in areas, so I've scrapped it off (not a nice job, I can tell you).

Somehow I need to increase the floor level in the lean-to by 12mm so that it's the same level as the kitchen, and do something about the damp proofing at the same time. Any ideas?

i would advise you get a dpm installed,by getting the floor lifted,a dpm, then a screed put on top.
or you will have major damp issues,,..and as for fixing tiles onto a slab without a dpm..i wouldnt....
