Li-ion Batteries for torch

My father purchased some of these 18650 (that's the dimensions) 3.7v hoping to fit it to a torch in place of a cartridge with 3xAAA batteries

They are too long.
They even sell sleeves to slightly increase the diameter


is this possible or a dream ?

if he wants it for a torch, he should fit an LED bulb (or does it have one?) and it will last an incredible time even with alkaline batts because the drain is low. For even longer life he can fit lithium AAs. It's hardly worth getting rechargeables because by the time they go flat the price will have dropped, and IME the charge shelf life is shorter.

If you post pics of the thing you have in mind it may spark better ideas. Most torches have a base spring that will accomodate slight differences in length so yours must be different.

I've recently been buying lithiums (including quite uncommon ones) from
haystack73 on ebay. he has quite a good range.
