Lift Supply

Is there any regulation/standard that restricts the use of proividing a lift with a supply from a sub-distribution board as opposed to the main panel? It might not be seen as good working practice, but the standards I have searched through do not clearly state where the electrical supply must come from. Any suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Did two last year, and the spec was for cabling from origin. This was jst over 100m to the pair of lifts.

Yep. All lifts I've ever done have always been spec'd as supplied from origin or local panel board (NOT dist board)

Yes it is definately sensible to wire lifts from the origin, as this minimises downtime when other boards need to be isolated for works. This could possibly be seen as disability discrimination if it were not seen that all had been done to ensure the lifts could function for the mobility of those less able.

We did a lift supply in a block of flats a short while ago and the spec there was for a completely seperate TP isolator directly to the tails. Not that we could have bummed it into the SP CU for the landlords anyway!

It is also commonly seen in old peoples homes and the like - Always a seperate run back to the origin and a seperate switch fuse is the norm.

I have never seen the regs regarding this, but take it as gospal.

Thanks for the comments. The problem is, is that the lift has already been supplied off a sub-dist board and my job as client rep is to argue the case that this is not good working practice. If I were the contractor I would argue..."Show me where it says you can't provide a lift supply off a sub-dist board"

Is there anything in BS 5655, BS EN81 or The Lift Regulations 1997?
