Have just replaced a light switch in my back room with a dimmer. There were lots of wires in there, so have just replicated the connections from the old switch. All worked ok in the back room.

However, on the other side of the wall (in the hall) is a switch that controls the downstairs hall and upstairs landing. This switches off the landing OK, but now the light in the hall will not switch off??? I don't get it if I've replicated the wiring from the old switch.

a couple of things.

Faulty Switch (try the switch in another room)

Can the hall light be turned off from downstairs? if so does the new switch have 3 terminals?

You have connected it wrong

If none of the above work what colours (and how many) do you have in the hall switch?
