i,m wiring a light switch one way
i put the live in the common were to i put the nuteral wire :?:

The neutral should not go to the switch. There are 2 ways to wire up a 1 way light. One is to take a mains supply to the light fitting and run a T & E cable from there to the switch. Ceiling roses have a terminal marked loop for connecting the mains live to the switch cable. The black wire from the switch cable should have a bit of red insulation wrapped round it each end to show it is the switched live. This goes to one side of the bulb, the neutral to the other.

The second method is to run a mains cable to the switch and connect its live wire to the switch. Another T & E cable carries the live and neutral to the light fitting. In this case you need a 5 amp terminal, sometimes known as a chocolate block terminal to connect the mains neutral and light cable neutral wires together.

i think you will find that hughoel assumed that becsue its black it is neutral

Such assumptions can be dangerous though so it is safer to explain the job properly. :o

fair point, but you also have to understand the limitations of the posters. bet he doesnt understand your explanation

see the for reference section. youll find that there is NO neutral at the switch. the black is a switched live. changing a lightswitch is easy. just take off the old one and connect the new 1 using the same terminals. if you dont understand this then get someone else to do it

it often helps when asking a question to give as much information as possible. in your case you are adding a light to your loft.

in that case i suggest you look in the "for refernce section" you will find there a drawing that shows you exactly how to do what you are trying to do.
