Hello. Could anyone tell me if it is safe to run two lighting circuits off socket circuit. Although there is only one connection to the socket it appears that this also connected to the shower and switches it off. The cable to the socket is 2.5mm. The cable leading to the shower is by my estimation 6mm. The shower unit (aqua galaxy 3000) runs on a 32amp circuit and therefore is approximately 7 kw giving 29.166 amps. The idea is too take a 2.5mm lead off the socket (see attachments) and then connect to fused connection unit in the airing cupboard. Then step down power to 5 amp fuse in FCU. From there connect to a junction box with 1.5mm cable and then two 1.5mm cables leading from there connecting to one light switch in the airing cupboard and other to another switch in the loft above and ultimately to light fittings. The bulbs will be modern LED (5.5w) traditionally 50watt. So total wattage output will be very low. Thank you for your help.

You would be better positing this in the 'Electrics UK' forum which is where the sparkies hang out. Probably no one has seen your question here because this forum called 'Your projects' and is defined as being for:

Regulation 314.1 Every installation shall be divided into circuits, as necessary, to: lists the reasons why we have socket and lighting circuits separated.

For example "(iii) take account of danger that may arise from the failure of a single circuit such as a lighting circuit" however "
(iv) reduce the possibility of unwanted tripping of RCDs due to excessive protective conductor currents produced by equipment in normal operation" seems to have been ignored.

"559.6.1.6 Lighting circuits incorporating B15. B22. E14. E27 or E40 lampholders shall be protected by an overcurrent protective device of maximum rating 16A." also needs consideration. It seems you are using a FCU so that is covered.

The ring final is a special case, only accessories to BS 1363 can be supplied from the ring final, and any unfused spur should only have one accessories to BS 1363 so if the spur goes to a FCU then that feeds a socket and lights that's OK, but to feed a FCU and a socket is not.

Your diagram seems to show socket then a FCU swap them around and then it is better, what I am aware of is likely going OTT in some cases, and in real terms unlikely to be a problem, however one does not want to leave it open for snagging latter.

With a floored loft, it may be a nuisance to loose light, but nothing more, when tip toeing across the beams, it could result in foot through the ceiling, so need to do a risk assessment.
