Lighting from 240 socket

Hi All
I want to put up a small light with a switch under my dark stairs area. I dont really want to break into the lighting circuit if i can help it, is there any way i can create this switch with light by coming off a 240 socket which is nearby?

A 3A plug would be simplest.
Alternatively provided the socket isn't already a spur you can run cable from the socket through a switched 3A Fused Connection Unit and onto the light.

A 3A plug would be simplest.

"3A plug" is perhaps potentially a bit confusing. Do I take it that you mean a '13A plug' with a 3A fuse in it?
