Hi

first and foremost I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post( which I can’t find about getting mains electric in my loft through the plaster and lattice wall , a couple of small holes and some conduit pushed into the wall job done :)

my next question if anyone could help :) I want to wire a permanent light in the loft.

could I take this from the lighting cables in the loft going to the bedrooms or better taking it from a fused spire from my socket electrics? I’d prefer the first choice if I’m honest.

could anyone tell me the best way to do this and opinions ?

many thanks to everyone who inputs and helps
Jake

You can extend from the lighting circuit.
You need to establish how your lighting circuit has been wired. There may be permanent live and neutrals at each light fitting ,or only switched live and neutral. The former would make things straightforward. Show us a pic of the wiring at your upstairs light fittings / roses .

Use the lighting circuit cables (as long as you can get to permanent live & neutral and earth). Best having a switch and indicator light on the landing (ie not in the loft)

Hi all thanks so much for your replies, fab idea re the illuminated switch

here’s a pic of my ceiling rose

You have permanent live and neutral and of course earth conductors present at that rose. So you can pic up your supply from there.

That’s fab news , thanks for the reply and taking the time to have a look thanks
Jake
