A couple of questions for you experts if you don't mind.
We're in the process of getting the house rewired (by a spark, not me) and a couple of things have come up.

The existing bathroom lighting is all mains voltage, one shower light installed above the bath and the other downlighters installed in zone3/outside zones. Is that a problem? The sparky seems to think it should all be low voltage and/or protected by rcd? I've read the niceic linked in the reference post but don't see that anywhere. It's just that I've never heard of that before.

He's installed LV downlighters in the lounge which are on a dimmer but it really buzzes loudly, are some quieter than others, is it worth me replacing the dimmer with a more expensive one? The switch is right above where I sit and try to read whilst she who must be obeyed has big brother on!

Cheers!

There are no specific requirements for equipment or switcgear located withing zone 3 other than the general requirement that eqipment could be suitable for the conditions where it is to be installed. No RCD* requirement, IIRC that only applies to certain equipment in Z1 (free biscuit for anyone that can come up with a plausable explanation why showers are exempt from this)

*would discourge lighting on rcd on RCD especially in a bathroom and especially if other equipment is on the rcd, last thing you want to do is be getting out the bath naked, in a poor mood and trying to make your way across a slippy floor that might have towels and shoes left on it...
