Cattle in a field where there is a ground strike have a better chance of suvival if they are side ways on to the point of strike than those facing or with their back to it.

Reasoning is the voltage gradient along the ground is several Kv during the strike so the cattle have a few Kv's of difference between their legs. The Kv between legs is proportional to distance between the feet.

Those side on to the strike have the least Kv and front and back legs are at about the same so little current flows along the spine.

Those facing to or way from the strike have more Kv and it is applied along the spinal column taking out the nrevous system.


Some where on the web there is (was) a film of a herd where this was clearly demonstrated.
