Apparently this is because I purchased a cheap shower enclosure and drips are running outside of the tray. My guess is its a faulty waste connection? The shower has been used no more than 3 or 4 times and the water patch appears within about 2 or 3 hours of use. The water seems to be tracking along the plaster board join. Any thoughts?

I think you need firstly establish the cause of the leak.
It could be shower seals, it could be grout/tile failure, it could be a loose or damaged waste connection below the tray.
I am unsure what you mean by the shower is dripping outside the tray, is this something you can see? If so either the enclosure/tray has not been fitted or sealed correctly.

As said above, if you've already got water appearing outside the enclosure then there is a problem with seals, either in the enclosure itself or where the enclosure abuts the walls and/or tray. Photo of enclosure/tray may help.

personally I think it's unlikely that this is drips outside the tray.

it was very wet last night. I think I may see if I can get my GoPro in there through a light fitting and see what I can see.

thanks for replying

sorry... my builder is saying it's my fault for buying cheap.

I'm saying it his job to seal it

More details on what you bought and whether you employed a builder or an actual plumber to carry out the task?
But regardless of what was purchased, providing the tray was bedded correctly, you can normally manage to seal everything up.
But as previously mentioned more investigation would be required.
But if the water ingress is happening after the use of the shower and a delay of 2-3 hrs. I would firstly be looking at the seal of the tray/enclosure before investigating the waste pipes.
Was the enclosure tiled and grouted also?

There are simple things you can do to eliminate the waste connection.

Tip a large bucket gently into the tray and perhaps two of three of them.

If it is the waste that should produce the leakage.

problem is the cieling void is full of insulation and I think this is causing the delay. But I will try a couple of buckets down the trap

It would also be wise to put some weight on the shower tray at the same time, as on occasions the waste or trap do not show an issue until body weight is upon it.

What... like the stupid lump who's idea it was to do this awful project. I think I have one of those.. :D

According to the plumber (who's now hacked several holes in the ceiling) it was one of the old radiator pipes that he'd capped off. I'm now pushing to get them to replace the water damaged plaster board rather than repair the holes. The plaster is sodden and I can't see them getting a good finish unless they hack back to at least the next joist either side.
