Greetings DIYers
I'm getting a gradual limescale build up on the plastic facias of my shower unit and I can't seem to remove it. Any ideas?
thanks Gene Lovelock

What, you mean so powerful that it can remove staines from middlesex?

I've used vinegar and lemon as suggested and after a couple of goes it's almost gone. I did try using limelite and other assorted products but I was worried about rubber and mastic perishing. Many thanks to everyone: sorted. regards Gene Lovelock :D

Limelite shouldn't affect plastic or mastic, just always remember to make sure that the taps, and the water you use are cold.

As an improvement on Lemon Juice, you can get Glacial Citric Acid from the Chemist. Dilute with just enough water to disolve it, and it is really powerful stuff for tackling limescale (especially if used hot). Don't be fooled by it's humble origins though. Prolonged contact with skin can cause burns (especially when hot).

If you put a teaspoonfull in your kettle and bring to the boil, it will bring it up good as new.

You mustn't use hot acid solutions on chrome plate though, it will irreversibly discolour them.

You can also buy citric acid from brewing shops (as in wine and beer, not tea!).

So if you know anyone who is into brewing their own, they may let you try a quantity.
