Limestone fire surround and hearth. (fixing)

Hello:

A colleague of mine has bought a (limestone) stone fire surround and hearth.
The hearth is black granite and fitted OK.
The fire surround consists of 4 parts. 2 legs 1 lintel and the mantel.
We have figured out how it fits together but need help on how it is actually fitted to the walls.
The legs are not solid stone but made from flat stone panels formed into a U shape (ie a hollow leg)
The legs do not have any mounting brackets or holes for brackets on them. Theroetically they need fixing in place at the bottom where it sits on the hearth and at the top to hold it to the wall.
(the lintel and mantel then site on top of the legs)
Can anyone advise on how to fix the top and bottom of the legs in position?
Do we need to join the lintel and mantel using any kind of special mortar?

never done 1 before mate, but is it not fixed in place with a rapid set adhesive?
quite similar to the old sand stone fireplaces being cemented

You could stick it to the wall with plaster or even tile adhesive ensuring the wall is perfectly flat.
If the wall is uneven then chase the plaster around the surround etc first and then plaster it back in.
Yes you want some morter between the head and legs for which you could use coloured tile grout.
Other way is to fix some wires to the inside of the leg and wrap them around some screws set into the wall.
Or just use s h i t loads od silicone

Use a powdered cement based tile adhesive (Rapidset), sand/cement/lime render or even silicone . But don't use Gypsum plaster any closer that 300mm (preferably 500mm) around a stove if it puts out any degree of heat, it will not withstand much above 50 degrees & will fall off.
