Outlook Express 6, Win XP.
Has been Ok for about 5 years (time for a new PC really  )

Now email has stopped.
I can see incoming at the blueyonder/Virgin media webmail page.

"They" say it must be OE gone wrong, so uninstall and reinstall it.
a) no idea how to
b) that sounds a bit alarming
c) why should it have "gone wrong"?

It coincided with doing some big downloads, 200+ MB, but nothing special.

Can someone point me to what to check, or do?

It still just times out.

Do I need to save all my stuff if I uninstall OE?
Do I need the original XP disc to reinstall it?
(Spose I would, but gawd knows where it got to ...)

If there is a problem with OE then :-

OE <Tools> <Options> <Maintenance> <Store Folder...> This will show the address of your folder store, note how most .DBX files contained are named as per folder list in OE.
Copy these files to a safe place thus preserving emails to date.

Now check out the following...

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/oerepair.mspx

Hopefully following the above repair method may help chase down problems.

Can you see the big email via webmail?- you mention 200mg, I assume you mean a large attachment.

If yes then delete it via webmail

If webmail wont let you then you will have to telnet into the server and do it that way.

If that doesn't work set up a new profile/identity in OE and copy over old mesages (.dbx files)
