Hello all
Having moved into a 1960s bungalow 8 weeks ago, during the redecoration process we are coming up against very similar cracks above almost all window openings
This is the first room we have stripped back to reveal this, please can you help me understand what is happening here together with probably above all our windows?
There are no visible similar cracks from the outside of the property & we did have a full survey on the property where these issues were not picked up on
Your thoughts & advice will be much appreciated!!!

Its poor construction really, I guess it’s a single skin lintel, it has 1 course of bricks above before the wall plate.….so its not tied to the external skin and hardly tied to the internal skin - which is a mess anyway.

Over the year contraction, maybe wind load, roof uplift etc has caused the cracking.

TBH the lintels are taking little weight, there’s no structural issue, you have the irritation of cracking spoiling internal decoration.

Id be tempted to leave alone, maybe cover with EML and plaster over.
