Hello. I will be fitting some top hung bifolds. Technical instructions show how to fit into steel cavity lintels such as the attached link. My structural drawings states robesless k9 concrete. The masonry above will be very minimal as its a converted loft in a bungalow. Question is can this type of lintel be installed in a pre existing structure? I have an idea of how it could be done but keen to know if this is a common occurrence. Thanks! https://condell-ltd.com/ig-lintel-l...q6DCZgP4ymbBGc4mkpUVyDt6lZSAqgnBoCTL0QAvD_BwE

There are two issues - first, that type of lintel is designed to be built in and gradually loaded by a few course which then should set before fully loading with the rest wall above. Second, a certain amount of wall is required on both leaves of the cavity and point loading can be an issue.

Normally you should ask the manufacturer if a specific lintel is suitable for a specific situation.

IRL, that type of lintel is often used in that situation, and often works. But that does not make it right, and its more my chance than design.
