I’ve constructed a garden gate, it’s a chunky beast and looks great if I do say so myself, however I may have overlooked the locking mechanism.

It’s 117mm thick, there’s reasons for it being so chunky, mainly cosmetic so it’s aligns with a gate post that it buts up against, so reducing thickness isn’t an option unfortunately.

At the minute it says shut on one side using a standard catch (I can only open by walking all the way round), however I want to have it open and close using a handle, which guess isn’t too much for a problem, just need a long bar.

Where I am struggling is finding some way of un/locking it from both sides, most the locks I can find have a barrel of 70mm maximum.

I basically want to try and create the same functionality as a standard door but just with a chunk frame. What are my options please?

I fitted a conventional mortice lock with deadlock on my gate (50mm thick)
I can lock with key both sides, just need to make sure you can get a long enough key for your thickness.
The keep is fitted to the post, (8").
