Hi all,

My front door has a euro lock cylinder.

This morning, I managed to lock myself out. The key is in the lock on the inside of the house.

I have my wife's front door key, but the cylinder won't turn because the key is in the inside.

Does the hole that they key goes into pass all the way through the cylinder? ie, can i poke something through the lock to push the key out of the other side, so I can unlock the door with my key?

Any ideas. Reluctant to call a lock smith unless I really have to cos I've not got much spare cash.

Any advice that's not suitable for a public forum please email me or PM me. My email is my username here, at gmail dot com

thanks

I don't think it does. Those Eurolocks come in a lot of different lengths so on some of them it certainly doesn't.

Try tapping a spare key from the opposite side of the lock. Dont knock it to hard as you do not want to 'burr' the ends of either key, and thereby make removal more difficult. You may then need to push the key fully out by using a paper clip or similar. Good luck.

Lou.

thanks for the tips chaps.

i've managed to sort it now - i could remove the letterbox from the outside and then reach in with a wire and hook the key out. This is an eye-opener for security!

thanks again

At least you did not have to cause any damage and additional cost.

Err, whats your address by the way? ;)

Seriously though, as you say, if you can do it so can a scroat.

Lou.

Glad you go it sorted out but interesting point about security. Have you thought about changing the barrel from, an inside key to a thumbturn knob. I have one fitted and I feel sure that this would be very difficult to unlock with a wire and you will never have a prob with the key on the inside. Screwfix do these at £14.00, hope it helps

Thumb turn just as easy to open thru the letterbox, won't explain how but took me 5 mins to help a lady break back into her home after locking herself out.

Does it involve the infamous bent wire  . can`t beat a 5 lever deadlock
