I need some advice on boarding out my loft space, the loft itself is a good size with good headroom but has 8"x2" timber acrooss the floor. I would obviously like to board out to make a flat floor space, so do i need to raise the new floor to this level using 8"x2" as new joists or can the old timber joists be replaced by maybe 4"x2" which would mean a lower floor. Is there anything else i need to consider for this project ?
