Fire safety is down to risk. Some inspectors allow you to retain existing doors around the stairwell if you have alarms/detectors in all habitable rooms as well as the circulation spaces.

Christ. That’s a lot of smoke alarms. Equally as unappealing but thanks for the possible solution.

@tony1851 the reason closers were removed from the regs was because homeowners were removing them themselves.
