Hi,

I have attempted to get the info i need from other threads but I cannot seem to find what I need.

Can someone help? The loft in my house was converted when the house was built in 1982. We have lived here for 3 years! I want to start using the loft space as a bedroom for my eldest but I have noticed that the insulation behind the plaster board is only 50 mm Cellotex. I have read that it should be nearer 150 mm. The rafters are 100 mm deep and so there is a 50 mm air gap and then the insulation. I want it to be warm in winter and cool in summer. Can anyone tell me what the spec should be? I am prepared to rip all the plaster board out and start from scratch.

Is this enough detail?

That thickness of board would not comply with current insulation standards.
Nowadays, you are looking at a minimum of 125 thick insulation board. Usually this entails some between the rafters and some across the underneath, and then the plasterboard.
But why bother? You willl cause a lot of mess, and considerably reduce your headroom and hence useable space.

Thanks for the advice. I have plenty of room so I think I will add the extra just to keep the bills down.
