Loft hatch problem

I have a Youngman loft ladder (abt 15 years old) one of the rivets snapped making the door unusable, I replaced the rivet with a Nut and bolt/washer the door is now slightly out of line and I cannot fathom how to reline it. Anyone got advice please?

I think we'll need a picture of this one....there's no reason that your nut and bolt won't work, but the rivet may need to swivel so make sure the bolt isn't over tightened first.
