Hi, I'm a total newbie here so please go easy on me!
I've had a search of the forums and can't seem to find an answer to my question, maybe I'm not being specific enough?
Anyway, our loft is used for storage. Quite literally every square inch is used. From old bed frames, to old tv's, an armchair, and old kids toys etc. It's not boarded out at all either roof or floor. I've spent the last few weekends slowly clearing all the junk and tat out of it, but have quite a few more to go. I'd like to just board it out, clear it out and make the space a bit more manageable. However there are several beams that run across and up and down the width of it, which makes getting large items in there very difficult. I'd like to get these removed and the roof supported properly. It's not going to be used for anything other than storage, so I'm assuming I don't need steel RSJ's or building regs or anything like that?
Who would be the best person /tradesman to get in to do the job properly? If it was gonna be used as a bedroom, I'd call building control or a structural engineer. Would it just be a 'bog-standard' builder? Carpenter? All I literally need is to have the beams taken out and supported and I can do the rest of the work myself, so don't see the point in paying a loft conversion company as it isn't a conversion in the traditional sense. And would they even look at it, if it was just the basics that they'd be carrying out?
Any help/ideas really appreciated.
Thanks.
