Loft, Wool, PIR and flooring

Fixing up the insulation in the loft of a property we recently moved into it, as it's patchy at best.

Original intention was 100mm mineral wool between then joists then 200mm laid perpendicular. I'm wanting to include some flooring for storage rather than any footfall traffic, so raising the flooring 200mm is the challenge. Not sold on Loft Legs, anyone good experience of using them?

Any thoughts on using 100mm PIR board sat on-top of the joists to then support 18/22mm chipboard instead? Would still have 100mm wool between the joists, 100mm PIR on top then in place of 200mm wool, and the flooring supported by the PIR?

PIR expensive compared to wool.
I used genuine Loft Legs from Toolstation rather the Dial version from Screwfix/B&Q
Only 170mm so used 170mm wool under them. 200 elsewhere in the loft. Legs very stable and no problems

Have since heard good things about Loftzone

PIR is expensive, local prices are around £41 for 100mm which is “reasonable” given how high it has been recently.

I’ve seen Loftzone but it isn’t cheap either, and not sure how flexible it is working around obstacles like central chimney etc

Can't see a problem with what you are suggesting.
Wickes do smaller sheets of Kingspan that will probably go up a loft hatch. I have a bit where my loft ladder lands.
You might possibly need something to stop the boards sliding around on the PIR.

Loft Legs are fine and can be walked on.
I used 3 B&Q loft flooring kits and 3 sets of legs

Yes, particularly if headroom is tight. But you don't need heavy chipboard on top - just something thin - if you're not a fatty even a bit of hardboard will do.
