I have purchased the belt and fitted it to the point where it needs to go around the motor.

But every video I watch on YouTube gives easy access to removing the plastic chassis, taking out the fan, and then putting the belt through.

The layout of this tumble dryer, doesn’t seem to follow this. There doesn’t seem an easy way to remove the plastic chassis, as it looks to be moulded on. I have tried to remove the motor, by unscrewing plastic brackets that keep it locked in place, but it won’t move.

I thought I would take a look as a non-DIYer, and was proud of myself for getting this far. But I just need this last step to finish it off!

Don't know anything about your make and model but on our Hotpoint you have to remove the front cover and slide the belt over the drum then fit it to the motor and tensioner.

Thanks for your reply, yes I have done that, ready to put it over the tension wheel, if that’s what it’s called, but there is no way to get access to it, looks like I have to take off the plastic chassis that covers the fan, but don’t know how to do it. Well, that’s what seems to need to happen in every other video.

You should be able to see in my picture, both the old and new belt around the drum

It's difficult to see from your pic what is causing you a problem. Do you mean the two tone cover that looks like it is attached to a fan. If so it looks like it is fixed with plastic clips that would be released with a flat blade screwdriver.

Yes, that’s the part I am stuck on. The clip you can see, doesn’t actually do anything, and it looks to me like the plaster cover has been glued all the way around. A friend of mine, suggests I just try and open this, But with not doing this regularly, I am not too sure where to start, as I am convinced I will just snap the plastic casing.

Looks to me like there are the one at the front 2 on top and maybe 1 round the back not visible in your pic.. Try releasing the top ones first and see if you get any movement in the cover then release the other 1 or 2 and see if you can remove it. You should not have to put much leverage on the clips so I doubt you will break anything.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try again when I get home.

I have added another picture, just giving some more information. The yellow clip at the bottom, doesn't actually does anything, its not bigger enough to have the job of keeping the plastic cover in place, and the one at the top looks glued on. I have also highlighted in red the edging of the plastic shroud and its feels absolutely stuck with no way of getting a screw driver in there. I am just wondering whether its melted together over time from the heat and it just needs a little force - I have never tried this as the videos I watched never mentioned this could be an issue.

The last time I had to replace a belt on an old Hotpoint tumble dryer. I took the old belt to a local Euronics. They only had slightly smaller belts. The guy assured me that the belt would stretch. A week later I had to replace the V tension system and buy the correct belt

The belt does not fit around the tensioner, the tensioner spring pushes it toward the belt from outside in the gap between drum and motor.

Just to add the solution here, incase anyone else comes looking for it.

When you take the fan out of the rear of the tumble dryer to loosen the drum so you can slip the belt on. Leave it off, then this allows you to take out the motor out to get the belt on, this is opposed to unclipping the plastic shroud like seen in many other videos.

All done now, thanks for everyones comments.

Hi Marsdei,

I think we may have the same tumble dryer. Have got this far but cannot work out how to get it onto the thread for tension. How did you do this? To remove the fan at the back did you completely de-assemble the back of the dryer?
