The semi ped will probably be hanging on a couple of springs. Undo these and remove the ped.

No. Usually a plastic nut thing on the spring. Turn it with your hand and it will lengthen the spring and unhook it.
Maybe better if you get someone to hold the ped.

It may also be siliconed around the edge, which you can cut with a stanley knife. When you undo it be careful as they are quite heavy.
