Over the last couple of months a problem has arisen to the point whereby the whole household is woken up when the toilet is flushed. After it is flushed there is a loud noise/vibration as the water is fed through the pipes to fill the cistern. It sounds as though it stems from the pipes somewhere back within the wall cavity although it could easily be from the cistern itself as it easy to exactly pinpoint. Any suggestion ?

probably the ball valve. It is because of the water pressure is very high no doubt. It is caused by the washer on the ball valve moving back and forth hundreds of times a sec. You could try swapping washer but the best end to it would be a Torbeck ball valve. They slow the water down going into the cistern and work in a totally differnt way to normal ball valves. Once a torbeck is fitted you won't be able to hear the water filling up.
