When I flush my toilet, there is a loud humming noise from what I initially thought was coming from inside the cistern. I lifted the cistern lid off and when the toilet is re-filling with water, the noise is at its loudest when I touch (I think it’s called) the side entryfill valve. You can also feel the side entry fill valve vibrating until the toilet has finished re-filling. I then noticed that whilst the toilet is re-filling, the cold water supply pipework to the toilet which is all surface fixed, also vibrates when I touch it.
The pipework is all in copper and is fed from downstairs. It pops up through the bathroom floor and from there, it tees-off left to the bath and right to the wash hand basin and this pipework then carries on to feed the toilet. All of that cold water supply pipework in the bathroom can be felt to vibrate when the toilet is re-filling but if I turn the wash hand basin cold tap on, the noise and vibration stops completely. Turn the tap back off and the noise and vibration starts up again. Same if I turn the bath cold tap on and then off. The noise and vibration stop and then starts up again, until the toilet stops filling.
Has anyone come across a similar issue before and is there anything I can try to fix this before I call in reinforcements?
Thanks in advance for any responses received.
