lounge lighting

Hi all,
In my lounge i have two lights, they turn on independently but from a two switch wall plate, does anyone know how i can change this so that they are on different switch plates as i am splitting the room in two,

hopefully some one knows what i mean and can help me

It will depend how the lights are currently wired at the two gang switch plate and the ceiling roses.

Clear photographs of your switch wiring and your ceiling rose wiring would be very helpful - just make sure you isolate the circuit first.

Also how far apart are the new separate switch plates going to be - oh and are you prepared to chase a channel in the wall above your old/new switch positions and possibly remove some upstairs floorboards.
