Hi. Can someone please help me???
(Sorry in advance for the long-winded explanation)...

I have a Main 24 HE Boiler which keeps cutting out. According to the fault light indicators it suggests the problem is Air Proving... What does this mean?

Apparently I have the old-style version of this boiler, with 3 lights and one small twistable knob. (Approx 8 years old).

A friend who knows a little bit about boilers suggested I unscrew a little plastic plug under the boiler to see if there was any build up of water... And behold quite a bit came gushing out.

The first time I did this the water was very silty. Anyways after draining it and replacing the plastic plug it worked perfectly for a few hours, but then stopped again. I repeated the above and again more (clean and clear) water came out.
I've since done this a few more times... But clearly I can't keep draining it every few hours.

I also tried keeping the plug off/out just to see how much water drips out when it's operational and although it dripped for a minute it eventually stopped dripping completely and the boiler seemed to work perfectly for quite a few hours. However this is clearly not a good long term solution.

Can anyone please help and offer some (sensible) suggestions?

Thanks so much in advance!

Sounds like you are emptying the condense trap, there SHOULD be water in there. First one will have been silty as it'll have been sitting there a while. DON'T run the boiler with this plug off as you could be letting combustion products into the room.
The whole condense run needs checking (as well as other parts), this involves removing the combustion door. When was it last serviced ?

You should not be tampering with the boiler.

But what you can do is check the condensate water is actually draining away. It sounds as if the drain may be blocked away from the boiler.
