Has anyone any hints on making a windturbine, i have read that a alternator from a car can be used, but it has to be modified because an alternator requires very high wind speeds to generate electricity. Basically an alto has to be converted to a dynamo. Any one know how

tosser, let us know how it goes, it will be interesting.

But my opinion is they are not worth it unless its a very very big turbine

Did you ever see the ones B & Q had, about £3k i think, but thy were g teed for 5 years and the maths said it will take 10 years to get your money back

There are a few brand new ones on the moors near me not doing much, have you got a big lorry? :D :D

Thanks for the replies, i will see how i get on and if i ever learn to post images i will post a picture.

I read a great book "Windpower workshop". It's by a guy with turbines on a Scottish island. It tells you how to build a turbine from scrap parts, what wood to make the blades from and their profiles etc. A really good read.
