Hi can anyone suggest a way that I can make holes in sleepers big enough and perfect enough to be able to bang 3"x3" fence posts into, I want to try and get them cut neat and tidy and right through the sleeper, and hopefully quite snug.

I have thought of different ways of doing it but nothing that is that simple, I would have thought there must be a easier or correct method of doing this.

Any ideas or help appreciated.

auger or flat drill bit. armeg wood beaver or irwin speedbor are good on power drills.
mark out your square hole - drill the corners and along the sides, finish off with a hammer and chisel.
small diameter bit - lots of drilling not much chiselling.
large diameter bit - vice versa.
