Hi all. Hoping for some advice on sliding mitre saws, please. I've got a large number of Makita cordless tools, so am keen to stick with the brand as I've had no problems with it so far.

Price points are (broadly) similar for these two sliding mitre saws, but am wondering whether it's worth the extra to get the bigger LS1018L? I'm doing DIY only, and I've done lots of work with 2x4s as a material, but I am also hoping I'll be able to get some mm-accurate cuts on smaller stock, as well as very tight and consistent mitres on skirting, for example. I think I'd definitely consider the more expensive one if it's going to be worth it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

LS1018 is physically a lot bigger and heavier. Used a few hire fleet examples (including a couple of brand new ones) and been less than impressed by the accuracy out of the box. The fence is also a pretty dopey design. The model is being replaced by the LS1019 which has a deWalt-like adjustable detente strip (laser-cut stainless steel) which will adjustable for wear as opposed to the older system of cast-in pre-set detentes on the 1018, etc which cannot adjust for wear at all. Unlike the LS0815 the LS1018 is a double bevel design which makes it a lot handier to use on skirtings, etc. Personally I could live with either

If you're prepared live with the single bevel, the smaller model should meet your needs, although it's quite weighty at 20kg. The new LS1019 looks great but is a bit of monster at 35 kg.

Blup

Thanks guys. I think that double bevel is probably worth the extra if the budget can stretch. Thank you for the comments
