Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

You must have missed the line above. Please read it now.
I didn't miss it.
You claimed to be joking, in order to absolve yourself of blame, while repeating a conspiracy theory

Like I could shout, "FIRE", and claim I'm only joking to avoid any backlash.
But I've still spread panic.

Selecting an image stored against a unique code is not integration, or anything close.
Linking data using unique codes is the foundation of pretty much all integration.

Also, this ID is going to be deeply linked to driving licences
This gov.uk “wallet” is being developed to hold digital driving licences. The same data will also be stored on government databases so anyone needing to verify a credential can cross-check digitally.

This is the foundation of a digital ID, Driving license, passport, tax and benefits system. If they aren't insane they'll do it piecemeal, probably starting with Driving license and maybe passport then merge other in over time.

I don't know why they're pushing the illegal immigration nonsense except to try to pander to the right, which is a mistake as they are never satisfied.

As usual you’re not making much sense.

Are you saying Digital ID will integrate all ID’s, banking etc, and that’s a good thing ?

I believe IT Minion is referring to governmental interaction with people.
Banking is not such a government-people interaction.
The government currently has to ask for permission to access peoples' banking data.
Or use existing legislation to access it.

I’ll wait for him to clarify it.

Thank you.

Yes, it's all going to be integrated tightly. That's the problem. Then not only can every aspect of everyone's lives be controlled, any instance of data corruption or malicious intrusion or software failure or invalid data input could prevent thousands of people from getting access to the basics needed to even survive.

Leaving aside the nefarious intent, which is all about authoritarianism, public sector IT projects are notoriously appalling, on account of the government not having the first clue what they want and the solutions teams being incompetent. Look at the NHS system. £13bn spent (that's almost £25bn adjusting for inflation) and at the end of the day it didn't work and it was scrapped. And who was behind that? Blair, who is now pushing for this great idea of compulsory ID.

Everything about the project is a bad joke.

The problem is iteration.
You start with an idea of what you want, then as the process of achieving it become more purposeful, what you want evolves into a cross between what you want and what can be achieved, and what will be achievable in the near future.
Then further iterations causes mission creep, when future proofing is attempted.
Then there's problems of data extraction from older systems, processing and importing into the new systems.

That's not a great way to approach a project this size.

No change then.

Most IT projects fail*. Especially big ones.

*scrapped, over budget, late, miss key deliverables etc.

Iterative is the only way to approach a project this size. Even waterfall methodology recommends iteration for projects, people just don't read past the first page of the waterfall methodology.

There are many other (unforeseen by the uninitiated) costs to be considered.
Such as recruiting and training users.
Can you imagine the cost of recruiting staff, purchasing, equipping, or outsourcing training facilities, of front end (customer facing) users?

Don’t forget- It’s to force the unvaccinated to have their jabs, or they will have restrictions put in place via digital ID
Obviously I’m joking….. But it’s being mentioned already
People were forced to have the covid vax last time - this is going to make it harder to make your own choice again.
